Fall Happenings

If the air is crisp, don't rejoice. Contact the EPA. Air is gaseous and shouldn't have a physical texture  - Me The dark days are upon us. The days are short and weather is cold.  Riddle’s winter coat is growing thicker by the day. She’s working on that floof. The days are so short the sun doesn’t come up until I am on the train. For two months The Avenue was decorated with scarecrows made by local children. (I still worried they will come to life at night and kill us all) Not to mention I now come home from work at midnight. (Okay, it's not midnight, but it sure feels like it.) That first week after Daylight Saving Time ends is always the hardest. I'm still waffling these days about social media. Obviously Shipwrecked & Comatose will remain as my essay and long-form life updates blog and The Essential Rhubarb Pie will remain as my space for food essays, recipes, and restaurant reviews, but how do I want to do my microblogs and observations? Should I keep collecting

Can They Pivot or Will They Stay Stay the Scary Course?

In 2012 I created a post giving “advice” to Republicans in wake of Mitt Romney’s presidential defeat. I pointed out how Romney seemed to win the nomination by being the most reasonable and least extreme of the potential Republican candidates. Then once he won the nomination, he pivoted and began adopting more extremist viewpoints and chose an extremist running mate. If you poll Americans on issues rather than on candidates; if you remove the names from the questions; if you remove words like liberal and conservative from the ballots; you find most Americans tend to not agree with the positions espoused by the extreme right. Americans believe in abortion rights. They support gay rights. They want reasonable gun control and social safety nets. They want the government to do something about the way our healthcare system is run by out-of-control insurance companies. They want climate change mitigation. They want higher real wages. They want infrastructure. They want equal access to qual
