Shipwrecked & Comatose

Since the recent lack of indictments over Michael Brown and Eric Garner, and the massive fallouts that have resulted, I have seen some rather unfortunate memes going around Facebook.  What makes them so unfortunate is that when it comes to issues of race, too many Americans just don't get it. The memes all go along the same lines.  They center around an unarmed white victim who was shot to death by either by a police officer of unspecified race, a black police officer, or sometimes just a black civilian.  Occasionally it is just a meme, but often there is a link through to some right-wing website that makes Fox News look like The Nation . There will be a story about some white person who was unquestionably innocent.  The article contains no information about whether or not the victim had a criminal background.   He or she died a horrible death by shooting.  The story ends there.  It is sad and tragic for anyone to be shot to death, but if you're as...

I was seeing this one almost daily. Unfortunately, every posting I see of it has been taken down or just plain disappeared, which makes it so much harder to post about it her on S&C.  I swear sometimes people are psychic and therefore take their postings down before they can be reprinted as "Irsksome Facebook Post of the Week." In the midst of tragedy, comes lots and lots of stupidity.  I should probably just stay off Facebook so I can avoid being so thoroughly irked by the Gods 'n' Guns folks, but it's like a train wreck. I can't look away. What post gets under my skin the most? So what exactly do you mean that God isn't "allowed" in schools?  Last time I checked, there were no signs outside schools that say "No gods allowed."  I have seen signs that say "No dogs allowed."  Is this supposedly omnipotent God dyslexic? The law states that a school, which is a public institution, can't sponsor any particular religion itself.  Schools can't tell a student what to believe, or when to pray, or state implicitly or explicitly that one particular belief system is the truth.  Children are free to believe what they wish to believe and act on those beliefs accordingly as long as they are not disruptive to the school activities or infringe...

It's baaaaaccccccck!  To think I was able to read FB for weeks without feeling the need to call out someone's irksome meme.  This week  find myself unable to help myself. What I'm going to say today is going to shock and anger a lot of people.  I'm going to be accused of being hostile to your religion and that I'm "bashing" you.  (Well, at least I would if anyone actually read this blog.)  So be it.  I just can't get over this.   Look everyone.  We have a gen-u-ine miracle on our hands.  Someone's entire house was demolished.  He lost his most important possesion, his biggest investment, his source of shelter.  But that's okay.  His Mary-On-The-Half-Shell survived. Is considering this to be some kind of joyous miracle some kind of joke? That Mary-On-The-Half-Shell isn't going to rebuild the house.  It's not going to feed the family.  It's something to pray to, and I'm sure that's exactly what you want ...

As I  pick through this weeks smorgasboard of craptacular posts, I wonder if there will ever be a blog that picks apart Shipwrecked & Comatose.  How about an "I Hate Shipwrecked & Comatose" Facebook group? I do want to add that these types of posts are by no means any sort judgment on the folks who post this stuff.  Most of the time these posts are posted multiple times and by the time they end up here it was  a case of  " the straw that broke the camel's back" type of thing. Shall we begin? This has been posted on Facebook a few times and it’s time it gets the attention it needs on this blog. I have decided, as per a thought I had in one of my recent blogs, to have yet another type of "theme" post (joining "Things I Don't Get" and "Style 101").  I'm always seeing stuff on Facebook that ticks me off.  I feel my friends have a right to post this stuff.  I generally refrain from commenting because I don't want to get into it with people.  There are just too many people on Facebook and too many opinions and too much potential for ill-will.  Shipwrecked & Comatose is a dark little corner of the internet that no one visits.  I can sound off in my own little echo chamber and say exactly what I think of your small-minded drivel.  If anyone does decide to come and read and dare to contradict, I just delete.  (Here is where I flash my evil grin and do a little bwhahahahaha laugh.)
